Trauma Informed Practices

Strategies for Teachers and Counselors

Students exposed to trauma need caring, trauma informed teachers and counselors, and this website is designed to help! This site provides information on trauma, strategies to use with children or teens exposed to trauma, and a systematic study guide for our new book:

Trauma Informed Practices for the Classroom and Beyond by Laura Waller and William N. Bender

Specific recommendations and interventions for teachers and school or clinical counselors are provided to assist in working with children and youth exposed to trauma. This book can be used by individual teachers, counselors, or as a school-wide study. As more and more schools strive to become trauma informed, it is our sincere belief that a self-directed, faculty book study, coupled with implementation of the school faculty study guide plan herein will help. Many schools today cannot afford to “bring in the experts” for four, five or six workshop sessions, but this book will help school faculty become better prepared for working with, and succeeding with, children exposed to trauma. Many of the individual strategies in the book may also be useful for parents or caregivers to implement with children exposed to trauma (e.g. journaling, mindfulness, etc.). Check out the School Study Guide Plan, along with each individual chapter study guide.
